On June 1, 2019 I participated in the 5th annual Dive Against Debris at the Lake Worth Pier. This video is a compilation of shots from that dive where my father and I removed monofilament line and other debris from the pier. We also spotted a shoal of curious squid, several nurse sharks (one of which had swallowed fishing line), and a ton of sea urchins that were covering themselves with fishing line and rubber from a glove. I was able to remove all of the line I found on the sea urchins and a small amount of the line from the nurse shark without disturbing him/her. Please share, and spread the word about how much of an impact our decisions can have on the environment.
Check out the Monofilament Recovery and Recycling Program for more info on how you can recycle unwanted fishing line, and always remember to reel, remove, recycle - don’t leave your line behind!
